Frequently Asked Questions

Who will be supervising our children?

Your children will be well looked after by our staff and the supervisors of of our individual activities.  There will be a code of conduct that is expected to be followed at all times.  Since we only accept mature and responsible applicants this shouldn't be a problem.  We want your children to have fun but keeping them safe is our number one priority.

Will our children need any additional money?

All of your Child's expenses are covered.  Although, they will need money to use the telephone to call home, buy souvenirs, and for an occasional snack.  Other than that there is no need for extra money. $50 would be more than enough to cover the entire trip.

What do our kids need to travel to China?  Visa?  Hepititis shots?

Your child will need to get a "L" visa (tourist) to enter China for the two week stay.  It is a very simple process that can be completed at the nearest Chinese embassy.  Once we are in China we will collect all of the passports and put them in a safe so they won't get lost during the trip. Since the stay is so very short Hepititus shots are not absolutely necessary, but if you feel you would like them it is not a bad idea.  The shot process takes three months. The first visit to the doctor you will receive two shots: One for Hepititis A and one for Hepititus B.  Then you must go back one month later to get another shot for "B" and then again one month after that for "B" to complete the process.  There are many foreigners that have lived in China for several years without health problems that have not had the vaccinations.

What if our kids get sick?

If your Child gets sick there is a Hospital within five minutes walk from the lodging.  We hope that no one gets sick but it does happen.  In the case of an illness we will do our best to make your Child feel as comfortable as possible.  We will have someone watch over them and supply them with alternative activities like DVD's, books, or the internet.

Can we get in touch with our children, if we need to? Yes, we will have a number for emergencies.  We will take time every day for your Children to call you and update you on their journey.  Also, we will have all of your Child's emergency contact information.

Insurance?

We will purchase an individual insurance policy for each student that will cover them on  land, sea or air 24 hours a day.  Check out the details at https://www.travelex-insurance.com/consumer/welcome.aspx. See the attachment here for specific benefits.

Where do the kids sleep?  Eat? Use the Toilet?

All of students will be housed in a very clean and safe environment.  (see lodging)

What do the kids have to bring?

We would recommend  that your Child bring enough clothes for at least a week.  We can have the clothes laundered if need be.  Your child should have a stable pair of tennis shoes, at least one pair of pants and a swim suit.  Most all of the clothes should be for Summer sub-tropic conditions.  The average temperature is 85-95 degrees.

How many kids per instructor?

There will be at least one instructor for every 5 students.  On some occasions there will be more instructors depending on the activity.

What about my Child's allergies?

In your application form you will need to state (if any) the allergies of your Child and any outstanding medical conditions that they may have.  We will do our best to supervise their safety in this matter.  Since the student will be in the age range of 15-17 years old we will expect them to take the necessary caution according their condition.

What if my child gets into trouble?

The last thing that we want to do is spend the entire trip disciplining your Child.  That is why we require letters of recommendation before accepting your Child into the program.  If a discipline problem arises we will deal with it accordingly.  A student may lose his or her privileges for a day or miss out on a certain event.  The worst case scenerio is that we will escort your Child to the airport and arrange for his or her return home.  We will not be responsible for any penalities incurred in the change of the flight.  There would have to be a very extreme situation for this to happen and we would not take action until consulting with you the parents.

Is there constant supervision?

Just like any other camp we will allow some free time every day.  We will expect the students to follow the code of conduct at all times.  Yangshuo is so very small and the students will have boundaries.  Since Yangshuo is a close knit community and we have many staff we will know if they have left the designated areas.  Students who do not follow the rules will lose their right to free time.

Is the water safe to drink?

No, but every room has a water cooler and water is for sale at every store in the city.

What if my child wants to come home early?

We will do our best to make your Child feel comfortable and we will search for every alternative for them to enjoy themselves.  If nothing is possible and they must return home we will arrange for a new flight and escort them to the Airport and see that they are safely on the plane.

Is the two week getaway for boys and girls?

Yes, all of the activities can be enjoyed by both boys and girls.  Boys and Girls will be housed separately.

I have a 15 year old, and a 17 year old.  Will they be in the same group?

Since we will only have 20 students at a time everyone will be in one large group.  Although, when we do most of our activities we will put people together in like ages.  Ideally we will work is groups of five.  Five 15 year olds, five 16 year olds ect.

Do your counselors know first aid?

Yes, our counselors do know basic first aid.

What are the restrooms like?

Yangshuo is a very westernized city and most restrooms will have sit-down toilets while others may have squatting toilets.  Our only advice is to have some spare toilet paper always available because some restrooms do not provide it.

My Child does not react well to MSG.  Is the food cooked with no MSG added?

Yes, most of the food in China is cooked with MSG.  You can specifically request no MSG if you are concerned.

Will the children visit the great wall, and forbidden city?  If not, can they?

In this trip the students will not visit the Great Wall. The Great Wall is in Northern China.  Most people travel to Beijing to see the Great Wall.  Beijing does not reflect the atmoshere that we are trying to create for the students who enjoy our adventure.

Do the children have a choice in their activities?

All students will participate equally in all of the activities.  Some will enjoy certain activities more than others.  If a student truly can't participate in an activity we will find someting suitable for them to do.  We expect that all of our applicants be healthy and have a positive attitude.
